Things I Want to do After Reading about Them

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature created by the folks at the Broke and the Bookish. Each week has a different theme where participants try to come up with ten things to fit the theme.

This week is Top Ten Things Books Have Made Me Want to do or learn about after Reading Them.

Write

Books make me want to write! I just love the worlds, the characters and the stories books can contain and it makes me want to create something similar.

Go on a Road Trip

I want to go on a crazy road trip with friends after I read books like Paper Towns and Famous Five. It felt like it would be grand experience, renting a RV and taking to the road.

Attend a Boarding School

Books like Harry Potter made me want to attend a boarding school where you actually sleep and eat in the school grounds with the teachers. I would like to think I would wonder around at night to explore the dark corners of the school, but I would be probably reading with a night light.

Go on an Adventure

I remember reading Jules Verne books and wanting to go on a trip to all the exotic locations, like Journey to the Center of the Earth. I mean, sure there aren’t any plesiosaur fighting an ichthyosaur thousands of feet beneath us, but the general sense of adventure is still something to want.

Visit Historical Landmarks and Museums

At this point, the only reason I read Dan Brown books are for the historical landmarks and museums. Sure I could probably read a wiki or something for the details, but it is fun to have a story and some conspiracy revolving around them. I’d like to visit a lot of the landmarks and see the artworks described in his books.

Live in a Small, Quaint Village where Everyone Knows Everyone

There something about the village life described in the farmer turned hero fantasy series that feels so amazing. Hobbiton, Emond’s Field and Carvahall are some examples. Couple that with festivals and celebrations like Bilbo + Frodo’s birthday, Bel Tine and whatever they celebrated in Carvahall. And also waiting for merchants and travelers to come and listen to them tell tales at the local inn.

Winter Wonderland

Hailing from a tropical country, I’ve never experienced winter before, but I love the cold. I want to experience snowball fights, making snowmen and snow angels all the while wrapped like a human pillow.

That’s all from me. What are things that you’ve wanted to do after you read about them?

  1. I agree with every single thing on this list, including the last one, despite being in a country that snows. It doesn’t snow where I live, but as it’s still in the middle of winter, it’s pretty cold.

  2. I also love the idea of living in a small, quaint village where everyone knows everyone, but I think in practice I will stay VERY FAR AWAY from it. My dad is from a small town and everyone’s kind of up in everyone’s business – there’s barely any ‘privacy’, haha.

I would also LOVE to attend a boarding school. This is one of those things I don’t think I’ll ever realistically experience in my life, sadly. D:

    Here’s my TTT. 🙂

    • That’s definitely one of the downsides. Everyone will basically know everything about everyone. And if I keep to myself, then I’ll probably just be the crazy guy living on top of the hill. Haha.

I doubt I’ll be able to experience it too 😦 I’m wayyyy to old for that now. I think want of the biggest weird regret I have is to not experience the different school systems in the world like Japan and USA, which are worlds apart. I think that’s just hugely influenced by the media I consume.

  3. There are so many YA books about kids in boarding school. Kids on the West Coast never go to boarding schools so I thought it was a weird thing to do but then I met someone from the East Coast and she said that it often happens there. I wonder how a kid could do it, live away from his/her parents.

    • In my country, typically rural folks will send their kids to the city for better education and they’ll live in the dormitories. I think they usually adapt to the situation with the help of the school staff and teachers. There’s certainly cases where they just can’t get use to it and go home.

  4. Oh yes yes! I would like to see snow! (I think I would die though, because it rarely even ever gets below 10C degrees where I live hahah) but it would be so epic. Also books and reading make me want to be an epic writer too. #goals And hey at least it’s “research” for writing when we read all the books of ever, right/!? WINNING. Here’s my TTT!

    • I think I would die too. I’ve never experience really cold weather. Coldest where I live is just below 20C. I’ll probably need to be wrapped like a human ball of yarn. I certainly treat my reading as “research” ;D

  5. Ohhh, I would love to attend a boarding school! Boarding schools remind me of the ones I read by Enid Blyton! Winter Wonderland is a very good idea!
