Ten Things to Get Your Book Loving Loved Ones

holiday-gift-guide

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature created by the folks at the Broke and the Bookish. Each week has a different theme where participants try to come up with ten things to fit the theme.

This week is a Holiday Gift Guide themed freebie. So I’m going to do a post on Ten Things to Get Your Book Loving Loved Ones. By the way, I’ve always meant to ask this, but is the “holiday season” shopping, especially Black Friday just shopping for Christmas gifts? If that’s the case why do they have the sale a month earlier? You’d have to hide the gifts from your family for a month! Anyway, let us begin.

Gift Cards

Nothing pleases a bookworm more than gift cards to their favorite bookshop. Often times a gift card is better than an actual book, since they’ll get what they want instead of you accidentally getting the wrong one for them.

Books

If you somehow figured out what a book your loved ones wants, get it. It will be a very impressive feat if they hasn’t bought it themselves yet. Just be sure they don’t buy it between now and the time you give it to them, or has one already shipping.

Book Shelf

After books, you know what book lovers need most of all? A place to keep them. So get your loved ones a book shelf this holiday. There’s a ton of amazing bookshelf designs to choose from, but even the regular ones are good too.

Book Ends

Book ends are pretty good to, for the shelves that are not filled or for the desk/end table for the books that are about to be read.

EBook Reader

If your loved ones don’t have one yet, it might be a good idea to get them one. It’s a good thing to try out ereading, even if you think you might not like it. I didn’t think I would, but I have found myself enjoying it. A Kindle would be better, and cheaper, but an iPad won’t go amiss too.

EBook Reader Cover

And if your loved ones already have an ebook reader, or you’re just planning to shower them with multiple gifts, an ebook reader cover featuring their favorite book’s cover will be a fantastic gift too.

Bookmarks

If your loved ones has tried ebook and don’t like it, get them bookmarks. A bookmark for a bookworm can’t go amiss. We need a ton of those, preferably one for every book. You can get bookmarks with their favorite quotes, spines of their favorite book cover or even images of their favorite characters.

Bookish Paraphernalia

If your loved ones is someone who loves to wear jewelries, buying book themed jewelries would be great. A necklace or an earring of their favorite books, or items from their books, like a replica of the One Ring from Lord of the Rings or a Deathly Hallow symbol from Harry Potter. You could also get them prints, posters and decals to hang on their wall.

Reading Light

A reading light would be a cool gift for someone who doesn’t have one. Just a small, adjustable light to shine on the book that you’re reading during the dark of the night.

Book Scented Candles

This one’s from Buzzfeed, and I really like this idea. There’s just something intoxicating about the smell of books, especially old ones. There are book-scented perfumes too, in case your loved ones want to smell like books, though I have a feeling that might not be as good a gift as the candles.

So that’s ten possible gifts you could give your book loving loved ones this holiday season! Book lovers, have you received any of these type of gifts before? What else would you want as a gift? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. I believe Black Friday is just the sales they have after thanksgiving which has just blown up into a very commercialised thing over the years? Not sure but I’m pretty cynical haha
I definitely need some new bookshelves after Christmas haha. I actually saw some really cute bookends at daiso the other day that had a silhouette of the Parisian skyline and another one that was NYC which would make pretty cool gifts too! The only e-reader I have right now is my phone, which does the job but sometimes having a bigger screen doesn’t hurt. These are all really good ideas though!

    • I think that might be the case, but I still find it weird that people do Christmas shopping so early. Maybe I’m just on the late side of things, haha.
Those bookends sound amazing! We have daiso here too, so I’m going to go check it out, haha. I used to read on my phone too, but the battery drains a little too fast and my screen is very small, so it’s not an enjoyable experience. Though flipping the pages so quickly makes me feel like I’m reading very fast, haha. Thanks!

      • I generally don’t buy christmas presents until december, but I just like taking advantage of the black friday sales to treat myself tbh.
I think reading on my phone is actually faster than reading a physical book if I’m honest, especially since I use the scrolling feature instead of flipping the pages on my phone haha

      • Oh, I’m all for treating ourselves to it 🙂 I’m not a big fan of scrolling, I prefer old school flipping when it comes to huge chunks of text, but I can see how it makes reading faster.

  2. Oh, a bookshelf would be the perfect gift! And of course, books or gift cards are always a guaranteed hit 🙂 I hadn’t thought about a reading light either, but that would be so handy when reading in the evenings. Also, I know there are bookish candles, but actual book-scented candles sound like heaven!

  3. I love bookends. And book scented candles – what a cool idea. But the absolute winner is gift cards – oh yes! People keep saying to me now, ‘what do you want for Christmas’ to which I raise an eyebrow! It’s so funny because people don’t think they should buy me book tokens – that they should come up with something different. NO. Not necessary, I love book tokens. Still, I love any gift really – bookish jewellery is a nice idea too.

    • Book scented candles are the best. I totally prefer gift cards. Plus it’s just easier to get gift cards, no need to worry about getting to wrong book. Plus, the recipient get combine gift cards from different people to get the expensive books.

    • Haha. Oh, definitely a bigger room will be required, maybe a personal library/reading room of some kind!! It would be just amazing!! I feel like drowning in books might be a great way to go, haha. Thanks!

  4. I love that book candles are a thing! I was super surprised when I first started seeing them around- but now it just seems like such an awesome combo. And so fun that they are specific to various fandoms! Great list!
