Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature created by the folks at the Broke and the Bookish. Each week has a different theme where participants try to come up with ten things to fit the theme.
This week is Ten Books I’m Looking Forward to in the First Half of 2017.
Jan 10 – RoseBlood by A.G. Howard
RoseBlood is a retelling of the Phantom of the Opera. That plus the cover just drew my interest. Probably won’t be getting it right away, but definitely keeping my eye on the reviews for this one.
Jan 31 – Wires and Nerve by Marissa Meyer
Wires and Nerve is a graphic novel series sequel to the Lunar Chronicles, starring Iko as she tries to maintain the peace between Earth and Luna, which is under threat by rogue packs of wolf-hybrid soldiers. I mean its Iko, and it’ll feature characters from the Lunar Chronicles. I’m all for it.
Feb 21 – A Conjuring of Light by VE Schwab
A Conjuring of Light is the finale to the Shades of Magic trilogy. I’ve not started the series yet, but I’m excited to know there’s an ending in sight! Plus I’m convince anything Schwab touches is gold.
Feb 28 – Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller
A book about pirates? Treasure hunting? A Pirate King? Sign me up please. Plus, I like the cover.
Mar 7 – Sins of Empire by Brian McClellan
Sins of Empire is the first book of Gods of Blood and Powder series by Brian McClellan, which is set in the same world as the Powder Mage trilogy. There will be some returning characters + Vlora is a confirmed point of view character. Still need to finish the first trilogy though.
Apr – Thorn of Emberlain by Scott Lynch
Thorn of Emberlain was supposed to be released this year, but last I heard it’s been delayed to sometime in April, or Spring 2017. It’s been delayed a few times so I hope it really makes its release date this time, even though I still need to catch up.
Apr 11 – Star Wars: Thrawn by Timothy Zahn
Timothy Zahn and his blue grand admiral makes a return to the Star Wars novel universe in this new entry. Thrawn was one of the best characters from the Star Wars extended universe, which was uncannonized, but he’s since been reintroduced in Star Wars: Rebels Season 3. I hope he’ll be as badass as he was in the original Thrawn Trilogy.
May 2 – Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh
Flame in the Mist is the about samurais, alchemists and gender bending. I can’t help feeling like it is screaming anime and that’s a good thing for me. Plus, it is written by the author of the Wrath and the Dawn duology, which by all accounts is a good series. So I’m keeping my eye on this one.
May 18 – Lady of the Lake by Andrzej Sapkowski
Lady of the Lake is the fifth and final book in the Witcher Saga and it’s finally coming in English officially! I still need to finish Books 2, 3 and 4 but it’s good to know that the official English translation is there when I need it 🙂
No Sanderson?
Wait, there’s no Sanderson for me for the first half of 2017? That can’t be right. The guy published three novels and two novellas this year. Oathbringer (Stormlight #3) is coming in the second half of the year, so I’m expecting at least another novella. I’m thinking potential shorter novels might be the Aztlanian (Rithmatist #2), Bastille vs the Evil Librarians: The Worldspire (Alcatraz #6) or Silence Divine. The latter two is more likely than the former, since last we heard, it’s not actually written yet. Who knows, maybe the Lost Metal will sneak up on us. I guess we’ll find out in five more days when the 2016 State of the Sanderson rolls around.
So those are the books I’m looking forward to in the first half of the coming year. What books are you excited for? Do you know if Sanderson will be releasing anything? Let me know in the comments down below 🙂
RoseBlood made my list too! I’m excited about Flame in the Mist, but I had others that I was more excited about than that one. Too many books! Hope you have a great week!

Great list! A Conjuring of Light and Flame in the Mist made my list this week as well (I just finished A Gathering of Shadows and I LOVED it so I need some more V.E. Schwab soon), but I’m also excited about Wires and Nerves, Roseblood and Daughter of the Pirate King. So many great books coming out in 2017 🙂

Thanks! Hopefully A Conjuring of Light will be a great conclusion to the series. And hopefully I’ll catch up before it’s out. Haha. There’s many other V.E. Schwab books to read in the meantime, thankfully. There definitely are many great books coming out next year, here’s hoping they’ll turn out great 🙂

Great list. I’m now book 3 in The Gentleman Bastards series. Scott Lynch you have to finish Thorn of Emberlain ASAP so I’m not going crazy when I finish The Republic of Thieves, haha.

Thanks! Hopefully he’ll meet the date this time! In the meantime, I need to read Book 2 and Book 3 before Thorn of Emberlain gets here!

Yes I hope so too. But I also hope he doesn’t rush it, because I want the book to be great 🙂

Seconded 🙂 It’s been a while. I’ve only read one of McClellan’s book and I loved it. Hopefully I’ll be able to dig more into his work next year 🙂
